"Newport white kitchen cabinets peel"
Bought the Newport white cabinets in 2001. Material covering the doors started to peel. Some doors were replaced. Now another door is peeling, and they don’t want to replace it. I was told these doors have been discontinued. But their web site, is still selling them! Poor quality.

"Customer service"
I had no problems with the initial installation or the quality (homeowner) 14 years ago and had several doors replaced at the time no charge because we didn't like the look of a knot or something that some people like. Now after 14 years they are sending a replacement door front that got scratched through no fault of theirs and sending it no charge. I say fantastic customer service and how great that they are still in business and making the same products unlike so very many businesses.

"Cabinet nightmare"
I am a cabinet installer in northern California. Over the last 23 years, I have installed approximately 15 million dollars worth of cabinetry. Yes, there are varying degrees of quality and price among cabinet manufacturers, but that said, I have to say that these AW cabinets are the absolute worst I have ever had to deal with. I rate the finish at 2 of 10. Cabinet boxes, even upgraded to plywood get a zero out of 10, because they come racked and fall apart before they're ever installed. Once installed, they are either plumb or level. You can't have both because they aren't square. I have to knock the face frames loose from the cabinets to get them to line up with the next cabinet. The drawer guides don't properly latch into the drawers, so drawers simply fall out. One cabinet will be an eighth inch shorter or taller than the last. Moldings and doors and boxes all have different sheens in the finish. About 20 percent of the doors come cracked. I would reject 90 percent of the doors if I were the paying customer. We have to add tapered fillers to create openings that are plumb as well as square. I now charge twice as much to install these horrific shoddy cabinets as their similarly priced competition. I wouldn't own these cabinets if they were free. I also have to fumigate my work truck after each installation as cockroaches scurry out of every aw box I open. If you purchased American Woodmark or Waypoint (their alter ego) cabinets I pitty you for your gullibility to a sales pitch. If you are considering purchasing, don't! All cabinet companies have a value line. Choose wisely. Go see and feel a real kitchen, not a display.

"Worst of the Worst"
As a professional licensed contractor I have personally installed hundreds of boxes of all degrees of quality. I have never had such a poor quality of cabinetry as what my clients ordered from Home Depot; the Woodmark line. I have to believe believe their Quality Control/Quality Assurance program in their Kingman AZ. is non-existent as 2 cabinets have to be replaced. They have lacked the proper fasteners and glue to keep them together during the install and literally fell apart. And the seal of the inspector was on them!! I have never experienced such poor quality in ANY assembly and finish. Avoid these cabinets at all costs or they will cost you!

"Poor quality control"
Their attitude is it's my fault that they have poor quality control. Cabinets racked, poor finish, end panels with big cracks along the face frame, Doors that have cracks at all joints were the stile meets the rail. Just like other people, damaged cabinets were put in the box and then shipped like that. They should take responsibility for their quality control.

"Beautiful Cabinets"
I ordered my cabinets from Home Depot in Rock Hill, SC and after working with my kitchen designer, Linda K. I have the perfect kitchen layout. I read some of the reviews regarding American Woodmark cabinets and I was a little apprehensive about what quality of cabinets I would be receiving. I would like to say that I upgraded to the all plywood construction and I chose the Townsend Maple Espresso. We are in the process of having my cabinets installed and they are beautiful and well constructed. I love the easy close doors and drawers and the slide out shelves.

"Discontinued"
Bought kitchen cabinets at Home Depot couple yrs ago. Spent 4500 dollars on cabinets only to find out that they where gonna be discontinued so now I have no way to finish or fix my kitchen with out spending another 4500 dollars. To me it is bs. I was told they where great cabinets. I don't like Jimmy Johnson but might start shopping there.

"Had higher expectations"
I had a bad experience with special order rsi cabinets through Home Depot, and the kitchen designer highly recommended American Woodmark. The aw cabinets cost more than double and the quality control was slightly better, but I still found many boxes with serious flaws (side panels above or below face frame, sloppily glued panels, etc). While they promptly re-ordered the two boxes, I have another cabinet where the door is 1/8" wider than the drawer. It's a pull-out drawer so cannot be easily centered for a 1/16" gap on each side. Aw said no to replacing the door, which is a big surprise, and should be a warning to others.

"So not happy..."
The cabinet door fronts don't match in color, almost like they didn't get a second coat of stain *whom ever inspects or packs these should be fired or sent back to school for more training on how to spot imperfections... there are a lot of noticeable filled dings & scratches... and the directions to put the drawers & spice racks in are ridicules & somewhat generic.. honest, the first 3 steps are in English then the last 3 are in Spanish.

"Horrible Customer Service"
Ordered beautiful Cherry Cabinets ($30k). Six doors had multiple blemishes would only replace 3. Never returned Phone Calls or E-mails. They do not stand by their product and they have horrible customer Service. When we finally got a rep to come out he said "What do you expect these are not custom cabinets." Stay away from this company!

"Don't listen to these complaints"
I have purchased over the years Kraftmaid, Decora and American Woodmark. I have been completely satisfied with American Woodmark an actually have several issues with Kraftmaid finish and Decora finish and damages. Dealing with a natural wood product you can always potentially find issues. American Woodmark customer service is by far the BEST to deal with. I plan on doing my bathroom next with American Woodmark.

"Townsend Maple Honey"
American Woodmark did not let Home Depot know or the customer that their cabinet doors that come with glass do not match the bevel on the rest of the doors. Spoke with a manager and she admitted on a conference call with myself and Denise at Home Depot that they did not relay this to all their vendors. The result is the contractor having to cut out the regular doors to place the glass insert so the doors would match. Home Depot paid for this but the work was shoddy by the contractor. Also, one or more doors are off 1/16th of an inch therefore causing another delay to order replacements. We would never recommend American Woodmark cabinets nor order from them again.

"Run For Your Life!"
Just read Connie's review and it was as though we wrote it ourselves as we had the exact same experience including our brand new wood floors being damaged from them rolling their cart over it to place the cabinet boxes. These cabinets look nothing like the cabinets they have on display at Home Depot at all. We received cabinets with large chunks missing from the corners but no pieces of wood inside the boxes so they had to have been placed in the boxes in that condition. The cabinets look like someone took a cloth and wiped on stain with no finish at all. Cracks, bubbles, dents, smears and streaks over every cabinet and glue everywhere. We returned them and the replacements were worse so they were returned and we cancelled our order and went with Kraftmade and while it had a couple of issues we were pleased with the quality, finish and the customer service follow up to make everything perfect unlike American Woodmark which was a nightmare from beginning to end. Home Depot need to have a real close look at how this furniture company do business and should get rid of them.

"I would never buy this -- poor workmanship"
I never would buy this kind of Kitchen Cabinet again, it is very poor quality and the money is wasted. Every day I see more areas where I didn't like. I had in Europe an Ikea Kitchen there you could find no problems and everything works perfectly. I would get for the same Money a very nice and modern Kitchen there, and a very great friendly Service. But someone talk me in to this Lowe's Cabinet. I would not recommend this name brand.

"Wonderful"
I ordered my cabinets from Home Depot. 4 weeks later they arrived in excellent condition. I spoke with a few representatives and each were very pleasant and helpful. The cabinets were packed well and were delivered with no flaws. I ordered the Alexandria cabinets in maple spice. They look beautiful. I can't wait to put them in my new kitchen.

"Disappointed and Disillusioned"
The 1989 'builder grade' kitchen cabinets that were in my townhouse were better made and more solid than the new American Woodmark cabinets that were just delivered! I am so disappointed in the shoddy construction of the boxes, the doors, and the drawers. There is no way these new cabinets will last half that long. At my age, this will the last kitchen I will ever get to design. Instead of enjoying the process and the finished product, I am left with only remorse for the poor quality and the money I wasted. Sad.

"Not really well made"
I bought American Wodmark cabinets on a recommendation from Home Depot. (The staff told me it's easier to clean). But over the past 6 years, the surface of the two doors next to the oven have cracked twice, same with the base of the lazy susan. The hinges were made of poor quality, they required to tighten the screws frequently, also I've already replace it once, and another one again was broken last week. Even with the lifetime warranty, the labor is not covered, and I'm not handy at all.

Review:
"my new american woodmark cabinets"
Recently bought some American Woodmark cabinets from home depot for my 13x13 foot kitchen, about 17 kitchen cabinets for about 4800.00 and about 400.00 in taxes (California). They had a sale that included 800.00 off coupon. They also threw in a few free items with the order for the 4800.00 dollars we got two lower lazy susan cabinets, lower cabinet spoon/knife drawer (came separate, you have to take apart a drawer and install it), lower trash drawer with two plastic trash cans, upper and lower spice rack cabinets, knobs for the doors (you get to pick from about 20 different types). Also a lower pull out pot drawer, semi self closing drawers(the two lazy susans and the trash drawers didn't come with semi-self closing divice), came with two filler pieces of wood, one long and one short, veerer lower base kick covers, large and thinner molding, large piece of veerer for the back of the cabinets that face the living room/dinning room, also they barely give you enough accessories to complete the job. Luckily my cabinet handyman didn't make any errors for the moldings or filler pieces or I would have been in trouble. Not sure what extra pieces would cost, also these are their basic honey oak designed cabinets, 15 were American Woodmark and 2 were Thomasville upper and lower spice rack cabinets because home depot said that American Woodmark did not have my spice racks in my size(in restrospect shouldn't have done this because they look different than the American Woodmark cabinets. Even though they send you 2 woodmark veerer sheets and two different door covers, they still look different also. They did not come with the woodmark semi self closing doors). Also see my review of the Thomasville cabinets in their cabinet review section. The american woodmark sends you the cabinets by truck. The trucking company emails you information on their delivery day and arrival times, they said they would be there between 11:00am to 3:00pm, someone called me at 11:00 and said they would be there in 30 minutes but didn't show up still 2:30. Not sure what happened but they did show up before 3:00pm. The cabinets take up a lot of space and had them put them in the driveway. They give you a check off list and the wife checked off as they went. There were a lot of boxes, big and small, also on the boxes it said in English and Spanish that you have 7 days to inspect the boxes. The truck delivery people work very fast, since the boxes were too big and bulky to bring into the house and garage. I took them out of the boxes and inspected them also, the cabinets are well protected with cardboard. Plastic wrapping around the boxes and plastic protectors for the cabinet edges and extra cardboard where needed. All in all very well packaged, only one upper cabinet door was damaged. Brought them into the house, touched one against the garage door and it dented slightly, so the particle board that is used is a little low grade, so use caution with them until they are put in place in the kitchen. The assembly and hardware seem to be very good but the particle board they use seems a little cheap. I can only speak for my cabinets but the base model cabinets have very little wood on them. Mostly particle board that has some type of vacuum themo plastic grain on them, but they look good as long as you don't look too closely. Also when the uppers and lowers are finally installed they look very good, and the mechanics are holding up well so far. But in all fairness these are very light duty kitchen cabinets. If you are rough on cabinets or have a big family that will give these cabinets a work out, I would look elsewhere. Also I took out the old 26 year old cabinets and when I put them side by side with my new ones, I found out very quickly that the old ones are better built than the new ones. Just better put together, it's just that the old ones are ugly and old looking, so I stained them dark walnut and polycoated them and hung them in the garage to use as storage. Glad I didn't throw them away. I have a small list of complaints, the pantry cabinet they sent were 90 inches tall but my ceiling is 90 inches tall. It was very difficult to install, the handyman had to cut into the ceiling a little. It put a dent into the ceiling, had to pay the handyman extra to fix the ceiling. My old cabinets have a removable sub-section below the cabinets but these woodmark ones don't. Woodmark stated they have a kick plate but they really don't it's all one piece from top to bottom(also since there is not protective sub-box underneath them. The particle board can soak up any water from mopping around them, so you might have to put down silicone/caulking behind the veerer kick panel or not mop around them), not sure if its the designer/home depot salesperson or the people they sent out to measure the kitchen, but american woodmark says they train the home depot people and their associates. One item was missing in the thomasville spice rack cabinet and the designer/salesrep at home depot. Said I didn't really need it, had to take the cabinet down to her to convince her it was needed. Also I notice after the sale, she seem now not interested in me or the few problems I had. Basically she was brushing me off a little. But I didn't let that stop me with small issues I was having....i bugged her everytime I had a issue. Also other small problems were that the thomasville cabinets came with screws to mount and the american woodmark ones didn't. It would have been nice if the designer/sales rep offered that information on the screws necessary with these cabinets or offered a kit to buy. But she didn't, also inside the woodmark cabinets tags are posted not to use nails on these cabinets. My old cabinets were nailed in, not sure why these new cabinets can't use nails but followed their directions and only used screws. Another problem was with the measurement people that they sent out twice to measure my kitchen, the first group of measurers spend only 10 minutes measuring, the second group spent about 20 minutes. The measurement wasn't correct, which I didn't know until it was too late. The upper and lower cabinets on one wall was 2 inches too wide but because when they installed them, I didn't think much of it until the granite guy did his work. Two days later and found out the bullnose on granite needs an extra two inches on the bullnose edges so it stuck out on edges going/coming from the garage door. But it was too late to do anything about it. So if you are going to install bullnose granite, it overhangs your cabinet about 2 inches on the bullnose side of it. So the cabinets next to the door will need to be 2 inches to the left or right of a opening door. Also the top cabinet should be inline with the bottom one. And the sad part of it, is that the designer/sales rep and the people that measured the kitchen knew I was putting in bullnose granite because originally I was buying it from them. So you might have to double check the work of these people that come out and ask questions when they are measuring also if you hire handymen like I did. You have to supervise them, also research on the internet what is the basic procedure and what materials need to used. Many of them tried to use cheap material on the project.
