Cabinets turned yellow and Wellborn does not and will not stand behind their product. Next house will not have Wellborn cabinets. Bottom line, terrible product.

"Pitiful"
They don't build them like they used to. $3000 just for kitchen island I would expect them to look a little better (that doesn't include granite, etc.) When rep came out to home you would think I was buying Ferrari quality. Once arrived it was a used ford. Looks cheap.

"Inferior quality"
My Wellborn kitchen cabinets are only six years old and they need to be replaced. I recognized the poor quality when they arrived, however, I was locked into the purchase because of the prepayment requirement of the distributor. Upon my complaint, a "representative" from Wellborn came out, said they had some issues and other complaints, but they would not refund. Save yourself from the same dissatisfaction and poor quality product and look elsewhere.

"Buyer Beware Wellborn Cabinets"
Buyer Beware. Wellborn does not support its franchises, nor train the newbees properly. My custom made cabinets had to be custom re-built, because the franchise was not trained. Wellborn does not support its franchise, and I was left with finding a person to do this, and match add'l cabinetry I needed. Wellborn would not even reply to me.

"Chip paint after one month"
I only had enough money saved to buy my base cabinets from a kitchen dealer and was excited. I got the white wainscot look and sadly after one month the paint started to chip off. I contact the dealer I purchased them through and the company. No one cared after they got my hard earned money. So I used the touch up crayon and been living with them since. Worst purchase ever. They're made well but the paint is terrible. If you got just the wood ones you won't have the chipping like I have. But I would think Wellborn would like to have a happy customer than one that bad mouths them. Good luck but I'm out.

"Finish wear"
In my opinion, worse cabinets ever! I had a new kitchen installed and went with a dealer who sold Wellborn cabinets. What I liked upon initial inspection of the cabinets was cabinet construction. Hinges were durable and dove tail construction. However, over time the finish began to wear off, tell tale signs of factory sprayed stains with literal stripes appearing on the door fronts. In some areas the finish just wore away. I phoned in within the warranty period and was initially told to provide a receipt and go to a local dealer. I had difficulty finding a local "dealer". When I phoned in again some time had gone by, and they then told me that I was outside of the warranty period...oops! I had left 3 messages for customer service the week prior, and nobody returned my calls. Apparently there is no evidence of my calls ever being made to them. Really? Overall very disappointed in their product line, and service. Lack of response to me as a consumer is disappointing, but that's how things seem to roll with such companies. Needless to say, I am now stuck with ugly cabinets in a kitchen that I can not afford to overall for a second time. So disappointing and disgusted! Stay away from this product line, don't be fooled by what appears such nice quality from the beginning.

"Could not be any happier"
We had our kitchen remodel done about a year and a half ago. Went through about 10 different cabinet dealers and designers to get exactly what we wanted. We know this is a once in a 20 year thing so we wanted it done right. We finally chose Wellborn estate cabinets. We could not be any happier. The sheer quality of the cabinet is unmatched from any other company we looked at. 3/4 sides 1/2 back all solid cherry wood doors (no veneer center panel like a lot of company's) all 100 percent American made by hand. The endless amount of options we got to choose from were just incredible. We got them exactly on time not 1 day over when we were told everything would be in. They do sell different levels of Wellborn cabinets but we went ahead and splurged on the best the words no never came out of our designers mouth if we wanted to do something custom with the cabinets, they were able to make anything we wanted witch is nice when you have a creative imagination like we do. We purchased 34 cabinets most of them were custom. All our wall cabinets were made 50" tall and 14" deep and our two 39" pantries had o be built to 104" tall we have no shortage of storage lol. 15 foot island as well was custom built . after everything was said and done we spent $31,000 on the cabinets, which considering the other prices we were quoted from other semi custom company's it was a steal. We could not be happier with the product and suggest if you are in the market for a new kitchen you honestly look into Wellborn estate cabinets you will not be disappointed.

"Sounds like Dealers do not know products they are selling"
I came across this site and can not believe some of the problems people are having. So many of them do not sound like they are Wellborn's problem, it sounds like you have been working with very poor designers. I am a dealer/designer for Wellborn cabinets and am surprised by so many of these comments. First for B. Chassen in Washington dc, you should probably worked with a different salesmen. Wellborn does not take 5-9 weeks to come in. They are very strict with their turn around times and operate with a three week lead time when you order at your cut off and four weeks for new door styles and estate. Wellborn does ship glass in their doors and in the three years I sold wellborn only once did I have a broken piece. They will not ship glass separately, only installed within the door. Yes glass is expensive through Wellborn, but honestly glass is expensive through any cabinet company. Cabinet companies buy their glass from glass shops and mark them up, your designer then also marks it up, making it a very expensive product. If you would go direct to a glass shop they will save you a lot. I buy clear glass from Wellborn, but have Lancaster Paint and Glass that I buy my glass from. I have never purchased a $300.00 piece of glass, even specialty colored glass has only ever cost me about $50.00. As for some of the other complaints it also sounds like your designers either do not know the product they are selling or were not good with explaining the product. Thermo foil cabinets are plastic, every company out there has one or two door styles of it. It was super popular in the 90's to use thermo foil. Then by the end of the 90's and early 2000's the industry has realized that this is not the product they had hoped it to be. It is very inexpensive and easy to clean, but is a baked on product that does yellow and does not hold up to heat. Educated designers do not recommend it for kitchens at all. It is still a good product for laundry rooms since it is white, inexpensive, and cleans well. As a designer I do cringe when someone wants a painted cabinet. Wellborn is an American cabinet company so has to abide by government rules. They are not allowed to use oiled based or high chemical based products and have to be water based. Well guess what, a water based product does not like water. A painted cabinet should never be used in a full bath. The moisture from the shower will begin to peel the paint very quickly. Wellborn does still have some learning to do when it comes to paint, they definitely have not been perfect with their finishes. I have replaced many doors that have not satisfied me or my clients. They do need to work a bit on that, but they are not the only semi custom company out there that has to work on paint. Painted cabinets are also harder to install and take a good installer to do it correctly. I have seen some amazing installs and some terrible ones. I definitely believe that when it comes to a painted cabinet, do not go cheap with the installer. Pay a little extra and the result will be great! As for finished interiors and undersides, this is a perfect example of a poor designer/salesmen. If the bottom of a cabinet is visible it should have already been figured into the price to have it covered. Semi custom cabinets (through most companies) will not ever come with a finished interior unless you ask for it. (And pay for it) Interiors are natural maple, either veneer or printed depending on your construction level. White interiors on every cabinet is a sign of an inexpensive cabinet line. Wellborn only offers white interior normally on the thermo foil or laminate doors. When it comes to damaged cabinets, I have to side with Wellborn. I have had the privilege to tour the Wellborn factory. Once cabinets are constructed, they are boxed, and staked together on the loading docks. They are handled maybe one additional time before being loaded into the trucks on the Friday before your delivery. (Each region has a different load day, Friday is just our load day.) The truck then sits there until Sunday evening or Monday morning when the driver is ready to leave. Wellborn will pull up to the loading dock of the store and unload. Their policy is to handle the cabinetry as least as possible. Now damages will happen. We are all human and can drop a cabinet, bump into a wall, drag it. So to expect every job to come in and go out without a broken cabinet is very unrealistic. I work for a lumber yard and am fortunate enough to share a warehouse with three other designers. Our cabinetry is the only items in the entire warehouse and have a designated staff to run it. Even with all this, we still have damaged cabinets, but more times than any a damage is a result of our error, our delivery drivers error, or our installers error, not Wellborns error. When it comes to warranties, yes Wellborn has some issues, but not when it comes to the duration of the warranty. Warranties are all about the wording with almost every product out there these days. In the state of Pennsylvania they believe that the life expectancy of a cabinet is seven years. Luckily I have actually had very little experience with the warranty. There has only been two cases, and both were painted cabinets. The first was little and was handled and I had new product in less than three weeks (that I as the dealer installed) and the second I was a little disappointed. After a little bit of arguing it worked out that everything was repaired or replaced. I am also fortunate that I have an installer that has taken Wellborn's class on touch up and repair which has proven to be a great advantage for us. My suggestion if you are having problems is not to go directly to Wellborn, but to the dealer you purchased the cabinetry from. Wellborn is a manufacture and does not sell direct to the consumer (like most cabinet companies out there), so (I agree) they do not know how to handle calls direct from a customer. Wellborn is not perfect and can always use some improvement, but over the last 12 years I have designed and sold 16 different cabinet lines and can honestly say that Wellborn is within the top two of all the lines I have worked with. I average about 212 kitchens/baths/closet projects a year totally about 1.1 million dollars. I definitely have complaints about Wellborn, but I definitely have a lot of great things to say about this all American made, family owned business! PS there is another cabinet company out there called Wellborn Forrest. I have not personally worked with them, but when I was sharing some of the comments I read on here other designers in my office asked if they meant Wellborn Forrest and not Wellborn.

"Character Maple Opinions?"
Our Character Maple Cabinet doors are being installed now. There are a great number of large, jagged, splintered indentations with sharp edges and holes through to the back. This was not represented to us in the sample piece or in the catalog picture. This is more "character" than we expected. These do not seem to have come from a company of quality. Has anyone else had this experience?

"Satisfied with Wellborn Estate"
I am extremely satisfied with my Wellborn cabinets! They have been in my house now for about 6 months and I could not be happier with them. I have a painted maple in Wellborns "Estate" series, which I believe is their top of the line cabinets. The boxes were well constructed and the doors and hinges are the same condition as the day they were installed. I needed a touch up kit (from the kids and dogs running through the kitchen) and the local Wellborn dealer had it on my doorstep in 3 days! I receive compliments on the kitchen from guests each time they are over, as I entertain a lot! I am a true believer that you get what you pay for, and the Wellborn Estate series is it! It also helps to get a great contractor!

"Welborn Cabinets - Poor Quality"
Remodeled our kitchen using Welborn Cabinets. The quality is awful. Every single cabinet had an issue. The fronts look like they were painted without being sanded properly. The inside of the drawers all had rough spots where the cabinets were not sanded properly. The tongue and grove of each drawer isn't even flush with the drawer, again not sanded properly. Would never recommend these cabinets and they were not inexpensive! We paid over $20,000 for these low quality cabinets.

"Love my cabinets!"
It's been almost a year since I've had Wellborn Select Maple Sable cabinets in my kitchen and I love them! As a designer, I wanted quality, but I had a strict budget to meet. With Wellborn, I was able to have quality (I added dovetailed full extension wood drawers) and quantity (I have quite a bit of cabinetry). The Millbrook door-style gives me a full overlay look at a great price point! I do have some rollouts & drawers. Wished I would have done more drawers, but I still enjoy the cabinets. The Sable finish is so versatile, too!

"Dissatisfaction with Wellborn Cabinets"
We purchased cabinets from Wellborn based in Alabama through a local dealer in Florida. I really have no problem with the dealer we dealt with as they were doing all they could to help us. The problem lies with the quality of the cabinets themselves and the overall craftsmanship of the cabinets that Wellborn does not want to discuss. They sent their rep from Orlando, Chuck Bullin, and the last words he gave us were that he would get right on it and got back to us. We never heard another word from him. He received support from the customer service department in Alabama and they absolutely refused to discuss any problems or craftsmanship issues with cracks and color. They still will not address the issues and have refused to speak with us. I just cannot recommend this company at all. They absolutely do not honor their claims, or their product. The customer service does not address customer issues... only to toe the line and all the disclaimers that the corporate office tells them to do. Yes, I know this is typical in corporate America, but just be aware of this company, their products and customer service reps. They will not honor their word or their product.

"Bad Reviews"
I have been a successful Wellborn Cabinet dealer in Sacramento California. For 16 years and from time to time we have to replace a part or piece for quality reasons. We just don't have wholesale quality issues that I see written about in these reviews. All major cabinet manufactures have service departments that can address quality issues quickly. It is dealer inaction and inexperience that creates these negative reviews. It is the dealers responsibility to educate the consumer about the product and set expectation levels. It is more important to find a dealer with experience and a good reputation!
