Kenmore Dishwashers

Kenmore has almost 100 different dishwasher models to choose from -- all 18 or 24 inches. There are six different portable dishwasher models, eight drawer dishwasher models, and 68 built-in dishwasher models sold under the Kenmore, Whirlpool and Electrolux names. Prices range from just under $300 to more than $1,500. Kenmore dishwashers are sold exclusively at Sears and Kmart stores.

Kenmore's History

The first Kenmore appliance to appear on the market was an agitator type, wringer-washing machine in 1927 as a part of Sears' new appliance line. Sears broke into the appliance market because by the end of the 1920s, nearly all American homes had electricity. At first Sears and Kenmore only sold washers, dryers and ranges, but as demand grew, dishwashers, garbage disposals and trash compactors joined the ranks. In 1977, Sears put the Kenmore name on refrigerators. Today, Kenmore makes a wide range of kitchen appliances that are produced by Whirlpool Corp. or Electrolux, and sold by Sears Holdings Corp.

Special Features Of Kenmore Dishwashers

Kenmore Elite Dishwashers feature the Ultra Wash High Efficiency system that uses pressurized nozzles to clean the heaviest soil, such as lipstick or dried egg. Also featured are Turbo Zone rotating spray jets that are designed to cover as much dish surface area as possible. Double-drawer dishwashers accommodate the same amount of dishes, but the two sections work independently from each other, which allows users to run one small load or two large loads.

Safety Features

Kenmore dishwashers don't boast any special safety features. Some Kenmore dishwashers bearing the Whirlpool name have had problems with timer failures due to shorting out, which can pose a fire hazard. Sears provides free servicing to correct this problem.

Energy Efficiency

Kenmore dishwashers are ENERGY STAR-qualified. The dishwashers use less energy, promising savings on energy bills, and many dishwashers have wash settings that use less water and energy.

Customer Experiences

For the most part, customers seem to have good experiences with their Kenmore dishwashers. The machines are quiet and easy to repair. On customer review sites, some complaints about the dishwashers are that the wash cycles are long. Overall, customers think that Kenmore dishwashers are good value for the money, but some cite noise and service satisfaction as complaints.

Warranty Information

All Kenmore dishwashers come with a one-year manufacturer's warranty that covers manufacturer defects. Apart from the basic warranty, Sears offers varied protection plans covering repair and maintenance of Kenmore appliances at an extra cost.
