American Woodmark Kitchen Cabinets

American Woodmark owns several cabinetry brands including American Woodmark, Shenandoah Cabinetry, Value Line and Timberlake Cabinetry. Sales of the company's four brands of cabinets make it one of the three largest cabinet companies in the US. Shares of American Woodmark are traded publicly on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the symbol AMWD.

American Woodmark markets 10 basic styles (or "collections") of cabinets under the Designer's Choice® trademark. Each collection offers a different style of door, moulding, and different woods, such as Cherry, Maple, Oak and Hickory.

History of American Woodmark

The company traces its roots to 1951, when the company made dental cabinets. It was then acquired by Boise Cascade, a holding company. In 1980, the company was bought from Boise and rebranded as American Woodmark. Woodmark went public in 1986.

Where Woodmark Cabinets are Sold

The American Woodmark brand of cabinets is sold at large home centers (such as Home Depot) around the country. The home centers can provide you with an installation specialist, you can install the cabinets yourself, or you can hire a kitchen contractor to install them.

KitchenReviews has partnered with HomeAdvisor to help consumers find pre-screened, customer-rated contractors for major home renovations such as kitchen remodeling.

Cabinet Warranties

The company warrants their Designer's Choice® cabinets to be free of defects in worksmanship and materials for the life of your home. There are several limitations to this warranty:

  • It only applies to the original purchaser
  • It only applies to residential, not commercial, use
  • It does not include labor for the removal or replacement of a defective part
  • It does not include damage that occurs after the cabinets are built -- that is, damage due to improper handling, storage, assembly, etc.
